Skateboard Deck

Overview:

I love skating! At the time, I owned three skateboards, and making my one was the only guiltless way I could think of getting another board. So, I sought to make a deck by compressing sheets of plywood between two wooden molds.

Process:

• Cut planks of wood, glued them together, and sanded the surfaces to form two molds for the deck.

• Stacked and glued layers of plywood, then sandwiched the deck between the two molds to cure in the popsicle shape

At the end of the effort, I produced a seemingly cool-looking deck, but many ripples and gaps between the layers quickly informed me that the deck would not withstand being stood on. Unfortunately, I stood on it before rounding the corners and shaping it, so it broke before I could complete it. Next time, I may attempt vacuum forming instead of compressing.
